Multi-Alliance Geo-Literacy Leadership Institute

June 23-28, 2013 Florence, AL

 Reset The Geo-Literacy Leadership Institute will provide participants with the chance to network with Alliance teachers, leaders, and volunteers from other states including Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Experts from National Geographic Society and the National Geographic Alliance Network will help participants improve their leadership skills in Policy Advocacy, Public Relations, and Community Engagement. The institute will also require a commitment to implementing activities designed to promote geo-literacy at the state level. Four teachers will be chosen from Mississippi to attend. All expenses, including travel, will be provided. Any teacher who has completed at least a Basic MGA Institute may apply. Teacher consultants may also apply.


Participants will receive instructions and practice in the following areas:

·         Policy Advocacy including state-level and federal-level efforts (how to communicate with elected officials)

·         Public Relations and marketing including writing op-eds, TV/radio interviews, and social media campaigns

·         Community Engagement including building partnerships and developing an alliance professional learning community
